How to calculate CBM and freight

A common question how do we calculate the Cubic Meter and Volume weight in the shipping industry. CBM is used for ocean & Volume weight is for Air cargo.

CBM Calculation Formula :

Length X Width X Height / 1,000,000 (centimeters) X Total Numbers of Cartoons

e.g. 100 cm X 90 cm X 50 cm = 0.45 CBM

Freight Ton Calculation Formula :

1 Metric Ton= 1000 Kilograms
When you have dimensions of boxes first of all convert into Meter

1.5 meter x 1.3 meter x 2.4 meter = 4.68 cbm

As mentioned , if the rate is quoted as USD .15/ ton and weight of the package is 1500 kg=1.5 tons,that the freight rate is below.

4.68 cbm x USD 0.15= USD .702 or 1.5 ton x USD 0.15 = USD 0.225

Now the CBM rate is higher, the freight rate of USD 0.702 will apply.
